NTRA (Egypt) Removes Bandwidth Restrictions

The National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) of Egypt has confirmed that the bandwidth restriction has been removed for indoor WLAN frequencies.

WLAN 802.11ac devices are now approved for us in Egypt. Currently approved products require no further action. It is encouraged to inform all product manufacturers and end users of the latest WLAN regulations.

New relevant guidelines:

  • 5470 - 5725 MHz is still a restricted frequency band (no change from previous regulations).
  • 5725 - 5850 MHz is now for licensed outdoor use only and requires end user approval/license from the NTRA. This frequency band is no longer allowed for indoor unlicensed use.
  • Manufacturers are recommended to update device firmware to disable the 5725 - 5850 MHz band for unlicensed users. Firmware update can also allow the use of higher bandwidth and 11ac modes.
Latest NTRA regulations for the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands:

2.4 GHz IEEE 802.11 (b/g/n)
Frequency Range 2.400 – 2.4835 GHz
