IEC 62133-2:2017

Secondary cells and batteries containing alkaline or other non-acid electrolytes - Safety requirements for portable sealed secondary lithium cells, and for batteries made from them, for use in portable applications - Part 2: Lithium systems.

Please refer to IEC 61960-3:2017 and IEC 62619:2017 if your battery is prismatic, or used for in industrial applications (respectively).

Should your cell or battery already be certified to the 2012 edition of the standard, no retesting is necessary for continous charging, case stress, free fall, or forced internal short; AC resistance is not applicable.

Testing Requirements as per IEC 62133-2:2017 standard:

Test # Cells Required # Batteries Required
Continuous Charging 5 N/A
Case Stress N/A 3
External Short 10 5
Free Fall 3 3
Thermal Abuse 10 N/A
Crush 10 N/A
Overcharge N/A 5
Forced Discharge 5 N/A
Vibration N/A 3
Mechanical Shock N/A 3
Forced Internal Short 10 N/A
AC Resistance for Coin Cells 3 N/A

*Ensure that the cell is certified first before the battery.
