Algerian Regulator ARPT renames to ARPCE

Algeria’s telecommunications sector has changed its name from the Authority for Regulation of Post and Telecoms (Autorite de Regulation de la Poste et des Telecoms, ARPT) to the Authority for Regulation of Post and Electronic Communications (Autorite de Regulation de la Poste et des Communications Electroniques, ARPCE). The new title reflects the regulator’s expanded involvement in all aspects of today’s digital communications industries/fields.

Following the application of Law No. 18-04 Chaabane 1439 corresponding to May 10, 2018 and published in the Official Journal of the Republic of Algeria May 13, 2018- laying down general rules for postal and electronic communications- there has been an extension of the responsibility of the regulatory authority of a postal and telecommunications regulator to a regulator which includes the post office, telecommunication and all that concerns electronic communication. As a result, and by presidential decision, the name of the Regulatory Authority of the Post and Telecommunication (ARPT) is replaced by the Regulatory Authority of the Post and Electronic Communications (ARPCE).

As it stands, there is no confirmation of any official changes in terms of devices subject to type approval in this country.
