Changes In The Type Approval Process To Be Introduced

Direktorat Jenderal Sumber Daya dan Perangkat Pos dan Informatika (SDPPI), has issued a draft Regulation implementing changes to the Type Approval Process in Indonesia.

The main changes in the draft are as follows:

1. Changes in the Approval process options

Paperwork approval route (SDoC) will be made available for all product types – this was initially only available for Cellular Phones, Handheld Computers, and Computer Tablets.

Manufacturers have the freedom to choose which approval route to follow – either the SDoC or local testing route.

2. Changes to the certificate holder requirements

All Type Approval applications submitted to SDPPI will require an Indonesian local company to act as the applicant. Foreign companies will no longer permitted to act in this regard and hold Approval certificates in this country.

SDPPI have not officially announced when these changes will come into effect. There is also talk of possible changes to Type Approval renewal procedure, however there is nothing yet confirmed in the draft Regulation on this topic.
