Inspection Requirements for Wireless Chargers Proposed in Taiwan

In efforts to protect consumers from hazards arising from the use of wireless chargers, the Bureau of Standards, Metrology, and Inspection (BSMI) of Taiwan proposes to regulate the safety, EMC, and hazardous substances of these devices.

The inspection standards are as follows:

  • CNS 14336-1 for safety
  • CNS 13438 for EMC
  • CNS 15663 Section 5 for hazardous substances

Wireless chargers operating at frequencies less than 30MHz, must comply with the magnetic field radiation requirements of CNS 13803 (2003).

The conformity assessment procedure is Registration of Product Certification (Module II Type Test + Module III Conformity to Type Declaration).

Domestic manufacturers/importers are required to have their products type-tested in advance (Module II) by the BSMI or BSMI-recognized testing laboratories before applying for registration of their products. Manufacturers/importers are also required declare (Module III) that all equipment produced at their facilities, or imported, are representative of the samples submitted for evaluation.

The proposed date of implementation of these inspection requirements is January 1, 2020.

Multifunctional equipment shall comply with the respective inspection standards and conformity assessment procedures of RPC scheme.

Wireless chargers are widely used to charge mobile phones, tablets, and other electronic devices, raising safety concerns in regards to overheating, fire-resistance, and others. Hence, the inspection authority of Taiwan, BSMI, is proposing reglation of the safety, EMC, and hazardous substances of these products.
