Regulatory Update for Equipment Operating Outside of the 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz Bands

The Directorate General of Posts and Information Resources & Equipment (SDPPI) of Indonesia announces update pertaining to WLAN devices operating outside of the 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz bands.

In the official announcement 250/KOMINFO/DJSDPPI/SP.04.03/03/2019, SDPPI is now requiring that certification applications for WLAN devices with frequency bands outside of 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz enclose a declaration letter in their application stating that applicants are willing to do the following:

  1. Lock all frequency bands apart from the 2400 – 2483.5 MHz and 5725 – 5825 MHz bands.

  2. Be penalized if it is later discovered that the device does not comply with the applicable regulations.

The reason behind this announcement is because of the lack of regulations outside of the 2.4 and 5.8 GHz bands, as well as the addition of more 5 GHz bands currently being planned by SDPPI.

SDPPI is currently working to add new radio frequency bands:

  • 2400 – 2483.5 MHz
  • 5150 – 5250 MHz
  • 5250 – 5350 MHz
  • 5470 – 5725 MHz
  • 5725 – 5825 MHz

Currently, there is no update as to when the addition of the frequency bands will be finalized or in force in Indonesia.
