Public Consultation on Regulation of the Use of Bands for Radio Links

The National Telecommunications Agency (ANATEL) of Brazil has decided to open a public consultation for the proposal to re-evaluate the regulation of the use of bands for radio-relays.

The main objective is to consolidate and standardize the regulation dealing with radio frequencies for fixed terrestrial services and radio-relays. The proposal was adopted unanimously.

Currently, the use of radio-relays is currently in a framework consisting of 26 different regulations, 9 of which are from before to the creation of ANATEL and half of which were published before the year 2000.

The proposed plan is to consolidate 24 regulatory acts, as well as specific provisions of two others, into a single resolution; there will also be standardization of the conditions of use of several radio sub-bands.

This will add several sub-bands (approximately 66GHz) between 30GHz and 175GHz to prepare for 5G service.
