Technical Requirements of Radio Spectrum Use for Radio Frequency and Telecommunications Devices

The Legal Bureau Secretariat General, Ministry of Communication and Information of Indonesia publishes regulations regarding the use of the radio spectrum frequency based on class licenses.

This regulation concerns the use of radio frequency spectrums based on class permits and sets the rules and limitations on its usage. Class licenses are given for the use of telecommunication and radio devices. For example, a WLAN device that operates on radio frequency bands require Class Permits.

Class permission is granted for the use of Telecommunication Equipment:

  • WLAN
  • SRD
  • DSRC
  • LAA
  • Cellular LPWA
  • and equipment operating in radio frequency bands

Examples of SRD Telecommunication Tools and / or Devices:

  • Bluetooth
  • Power Tools and / or Telecommunications Devices that transmit below 10 mW
  • Radio Frequency Identification (RFID)
  • Near Field Communication (NFC)
  • IEEE Wireless Personal Area Network (WPAN) 802.15.4
  • and equipment operating in radio frequency bands

The use of a base station / access point for outdoor purposes is only permitted to operate on a radio frequency bands 2.400 - 2.483.5 GHz and 5.725 - 5.825 GHz

The use of a base station / access point for indoor purposes is permitted to operate on radio frequency bands 2.400 - 2.483.5 GHz, 5.150 - 5.250 GHz, 5.250 - 5.350 GHz, or 5.725 - 5.825 GHz.

Every telecommunication equipment and / or radio frequency device that uses a RF band based on Class Permits and traded or used in the territory of the Republic of Indonesia must fulfill the technical requirements stipulated by this regulation.
