Extension Granted for Demonstrating Customs Compliance for NOM Certificates

The Secretariat of Economy of Mexico has granted an extension period of 90 days to import the goods with NOM certificates without demonstrating in customs the fulfillment with the new NOM certification requirements.

Taking into consideration the time it takes to evaluate the conformity of each of the NOMs, the SE considers it feasible to grant a deadline of 90 calendar days (expiring on August 12), during which time products can be imported, without demonstrating Customs compliance with the corresponding certification as long as the request to the certification body, testing and calibration laboratories, or verification units have been entered before May 31, 2019.

For the purpose of the above, the certification body, test and calibration laboratories or verification units will issue the acknowledgment of receipt with the corresponding sheet that must be declared in the application.

This acknowledgment of the folio must also be transmitted to the Standard-Customs System which must include, among others, the following:

  • Internal form of reception of the application
  • RFC of the importer
  • Date of receipt of the request
  • NOM certificate number
  • Product
  • Brand, model, or type of product
  • Country of origin
  • Effective date
  • Tariff fraction
  • Type of certificate
