Extended Deadline for the Revision of Type Approval Procedures for Radio and Terminal Equipment

The Commission for Communications Regulation (CRC) of Colombia has extended the deadline for submitting comments for the review of the type approval of equipment until Friday June 7, 2019.

In accordance with the regulatory agenda of 2019-2020, CRC is carrying out the general review of the rules for the homologation of radio and terminal equipment in Colombia.

Comments are seeked for technical standards, certificates, procedures and approval procedures for radio and terminal equipment / devices that operate or intend to operate in Colombia, in a way that ensures that such equipment meets the international standards of radio emission levels.

This is to provide safe usage conditions for the user, and ensure that such equipment has adequate function and interaction with the communication networks of Colombia.

This provision supports two fundamental objectives that are common for a significant number of telecommunication regulatory authorities around the world:

  • Minimize health and safety risks associated with the exposure of radiofrequency (RF) waves
  • Define the criteria for the use of efficient radio spectrum and to validate the compatibility with the bands of frequency assigned.

The consultation primarily identifies and addresses current problems with equipment homologation in Colombia.

Colombia does not have its own National Technical Standard and adopts international standards recognized by the ITU, through Mutual Recognition Agreements. This is how the CRC adopted the technical standard of the FCC of the United States, within which one of its verification requirements is the FCC ID certification code, issued by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
