The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) of Peru issue specific regulations covering the requirements, authorization process, and rules for amateur radio operation.

The purpose of this regulation is to:
- Regulate the amateur radio service to facilitate access and development of this activity.
- Regulate the requirements and procedures for the granting of authorization, change of category, renewal, permits and validation of the amateur radio service.
Categories of amateur radio:
- Novice Category: Operates class "C" stations with an output power not exceeding 100 watts (RMS)
- Intermediate Category: Operates class "B" stations with an output power not exceeding 250 watts (RMS)
- Superior Category: Operates class "A" stations with an output power not exceeding 1000 watts (RMS)
Authorization procedures:
- Authorization by direct grant
- Authorization for change of category
Novice Category Operating Bands:
- 1800-1850 KHz
- 3500-3750 KHz
- 7000-7300 KHz
- 10100-10150 KHz
- 50-54 MHz
- 144-148 MHz
- 430-440 MHz
Intermediate Category Operating Bands:

The authorization for the provision of the amateur radio service issued by direct award or change of category is valid for a period of 5 years.
Foreigners who are temporarily in the country on a regular basis can obtain a temporary permit to provide the amateur radio service, in the same category in which they are authorized in their country of origin.
