New Standard for Beacons and Transmitter Receiver Systems for Emergency Services

The European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) harmonised standard EN 300 718-3 V1.2.1 will officially be superseded by EN 300 718-2 V2.1.1, by the end of this month.

In the EU, all products must meet the Essential Requirements before placed on the market, so it is important to be aware of new or updated standards. Please note that devices already on the market are not affected by changes in the standards, unless they have demonstrated non-compliance.

The purpose of the updated standard is for the harmonised standards' transposition from R&TTE to RED, and the new (or amended) standard has the same scope as the superseded standard.

The present document specifies technical characteristics and methods of measurements for avalanche beacons operating at 457 kHz transmitter-receiver systems.

The date of cessation of presumption of conformity of the superseded standard is 9/30/2019.

After this date, the superseded standard ceases to give presumption of conformity with the essential or other requirements of the relevant Union legislation.

In other words, testing per EN 300 718-3 V1.2.1 as proof of compliance becomes invalid for demonstrating conformity to the Essential Requirements.

The present document covers the essential requirements of article 3(3)(g) of Directive 2014/53/EU.
