New Labeling and Marking Requirements for Electronic and Information Technology

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) publishes new marking requirements for electronic, information technology (E&IT) & solar goods, as per self-declaration of conformity.

The conformity assessment regulations of BIS include labeling and marking requirements, therefore BIS license holders under this scheme are required to ensure product compliance to these requirements.

The following clarifications are made in regards to the marking requirements:

  • A reference to the BIS website "www.bis.gov.in" is to be marked on the product or package, or both.
  • This marking is required even if the reference to the BIS website has already been provided in e-label of the product.
  • Registered products to be integrated or built into a host product/device will need to comply with this requirement until it has been integrated with the host product.

The provision of e-labeling also exists, for which guidelines as per circular CMD-III/9:6/e-labelling dated September 13, 2017 have been issued.

This notice supersedes all previous regulations other than above mentioned circular on e-label requirements, and is effective as of September 6, 2019.
