Guidelines Published for the Importation of Information and Communication Technologies

The Information and Communication Technologies Authority (ICTA) of Mauritius sets out the guidelines for all ICT equipment imported for commercial purposes.

Equipment Prohibited from Importation:
  • Analogue TV Transmitters
  • Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications (DECT) equipment operating in 1900 MHz band
  • Internet to PSTN/PLMN Gateways
  • Jammers
  • Military Communication Equipment
  • Non-Cellular Terminal Equipment operating in International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT) bands
  • Pre-programmed Private Mobile Radio
  • Scanning Receivers / Interception Equipment
ICT Equipment Imported for Commercial Purposes:

ICT equipment imported for commercial purposes by companies or individuals will be required to provide a valid dealer licence issued by ICTA. Commercial purposes includes selling, exposing or offering for sale or hire.

ICT Equipment Imported for Non-Commercial Purposes:
  • Importation by individuals for personal use
  • Importation by companies for internal use
  • Importation for offering as gift

ICT equipment intended for non-commercial professional use, such as Private Mobile Radio and Maritime VHF Radio, for corporate private networks such as outdoor access points, and for public operator networks such as Radio Base Stations, clearance to import is subject to a type approval certificate and licence to operate.

ICT equipment for non-commercial purposes (including for personal use and for offering as gift) does not require a licence or type approval certificate.
