Draft Technical Requirements and Standard for 5G New Radio

The Office of The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) of Thailand provides updates on draft standards for 5G NR.

This is a draft standard for radio and telecom devices and equipment using IMT-2020 (5G) technology for User Equipment (UE) and Base Station (BS)

NBTC TS 1036-256x Technical Standards of Telecommunications Equipment for User Equipment

  • Radio Frequency Requirements
  • Electrical Safety Requirements
  • Radiation Exposure Requirements

NBTC TS 1037-256x Technical Standards of Telecommunications Equipment for Base Stations

  • Radio Frequency Requirements
  • Electrical Safety Requirements
  • Radiation Exposure Requirements

Previously, the NBTC did not permit for 5G NR products equipment certifications. Currently products can apply for 5G NR certifications combined with 4G, 3G, and 2G by submitting test reports for 4G, 3G, and 2G.

For products that only use 5G NR cellular technology without 4G, 3G, or 2G, approval is not possible at this moment. It will be permitted upon final approval of the 5G NR technical standards as, currently the NBTC does not have the technical standard for product evaluation. It is possible for the NBTC to authorize 5G NR products that also use 4G, 3G, and/or 2G.

In order to incorporate 5G NR technology, the NBTC will list the supported bands onto the class B certificate as an annex for reference.

The final approved standard containing the technical requirements will be published some time in February to March of 2020, upon which the technical standard shall be effective immediately.

Once effective, approval submission documents must contain the required RF exposure (SAR / MPE evaluation) test reports for 5G NR frequency bands.
