Updates to Technical Regulations for Electric Vehicle Conductive Charging Systems

The Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS) proposed to update the technical regulations for electric vehicle conductive charging systems.

This was proposed on March 9th, 2020 and covers the following standards:

  • KC 61851-1 Electric vehicle conductive charging system Part 1: General requirements;
  • KC 62196-2 Plugs, socket-outlets, vehicle connectors, and vehicle inlets – Conductive charging of electric vehicles Part 2: Dimensional compatibility and interchangeability requirements for a.c. pin and contact-tube accessories.

The objective is to improve the charging speed by increasing the rated allowable current for the Type1 (AC 5pin) charging method. The rated allowable current for the Type1 (AC 5pin): 32A - 80A.

This proposal is under public review for comments.
