New Radiofrequency Regulations for Short Range Devices

The Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) of Vietnam has released new versions of radiofrequency requirements for 2.4 GHz WiFi, Zigbee, and 1-40 GHz short range devices.

The MIC recently released updated versions of these radiofrequency regulations:

  • QCVN 54:2020/BTTTT, or European standard ETSI EN 300 328 v2.2.2 (2019-07)
  • QCVN 74:2020/BTTTT, or European standard ETSI EN 300 440 V2.2.1 (2018-07)

Below are the product categories covered by this update:

  • QCVN 54:2020/BTTTT: All devices using 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi or Zigbee technology (such as laptops, tablets, mobile phones, access points, Wi-Fi routers, smartphone, Zigbee products, etc.)
  • QCVN 74:2020/BTTTT: Short range devices operating in 1GHz – 40GHz bands including 2.4GHz RFID / SRD, 24 GHz radar, etc. Exceptions include Wi-Fi, BT, Zigbee or other kinds of product which a more specific technical regulation has been applied.

Once the new regulations take effect, all test reports based on the old versions, QCVN 54:2011/BTTTT or QCVN 74:2013/BTTTT, will no longer be accepted for wireless certification applications. The products need to be re-tested following the requirements of the new 2020 regulations.

All MIC certificates containing old regulations must either be updated or add the new regulations to the original certificates.

Both QCVN 54:2020/BTTTT and QCVN 74:2020/BTTTT will officially be in effect on July 1, 2021. The MIC will list the updated QCVN 54:2020/BTTTT and QCVN 74:2020/BTTTT on a new circular to regulate products under mandatory type approval and SDoC, which will be issued around March or April 2021.
