Mandatory Safety Approval for Plugs and Socket Outlets

The Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI) of Thailand announced that TIS 166-2549, the safety standard for plugs and socket outlets for household and similar purposes, is now mandatory.

Safety Approval will be mandatory for all plugs and socket outlets for household and similar purposes that will be imported or sold as stand-alone devices in Thailand. It is not applicable for plugs and socket outlets that are for other purposes or are imported or sold as accessories together with a host product.

Examples of products that require the TIS 166-2549 certificate:

  • Cord set with a connector (plug, wire, and connector)
  • Cord set without a connector (plug and wire)
  • Socket outlets

Examples of products that do not require the TIS 166-2549 certificate:

  • Cord set imported or sold together with appliances
  • Travel adapter

This announcement will come into force on November 11, 2020, 120 days following the announcement date.
