The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has opened a public consultation to amend the Radiocommunications (Short Range Devices) Standard 2014.
This amendment is proposed to keep up with latest industry standards and allow the use of international test methods.
The proposed amendments will affect the following:
- Update the reference to the Australian/New Zealand Industry Standard βAS/NZS 4268:2012 Radio equipment and systems β Short range devices β Limits and methods of measurement.β The minimum performance requirements and methods of measurement for short-range devices (AS/NZS 4268) will now refer to the latest edition, 2017.
- Allow the use of international test method standards as alternatives to AS/NZS 4268
Examples of short range devices and low-interference potential devices:
- Garage door openers
- Baby monitors
- Wireless alarms
- Keyless vehicle entry systems
The public consultation will close on December 18, 2020.
