The National Telecommunications Agency (ANATEL) of Brazil has published the new Act 7280, providing updates to type approval for telecommunications products.

This Act approves the updating of the Reference List of Products for Telecommunications and replaces the Act No. 2222.

The main changes are as follows:

• CAT I products that previously required renewal every year will now require renewal every 2 years. Products include ONTs, WWAN devices, mobile phones, batteries and chargers for mobile phones, IP phones, etc.
• CAT III products that previously did not require any renewal will now require renewal every 3 years. Products include OLT, Data Network Equipment (Switch) installed in corporate/industrial environment, Multiplexer, Coaxial cables, some types of Optical cables, etc.
• An ISO certificate is required for all certifications, except when the Conformity Assessment Mode is “Conformity Declaration.”
• Testing reports by foreign laboratories accredited by one ILAC member will be accepted for some devices, including OLT, Data Network Equipment (Switch) installed in corporate/industrial environment, Digital Multiplex, etc.

This new Act will come into effect around June 1, 2021, 180 days after its publication.
