New Safety Standard Has Been Announced

South Africa (NRCS) has announced, internationally, that IEC 62368 is the new standard and it will be replacing IEC 60065 and IEC 60950 standards.

  • IEC 62368 is still not accepted by NRCS because it is not yet being covered by NRCS regulation.
  • IEC 62368 is only accepted if and only if it is accompanied by a declaration test report which declares that this new standard is technically equivalent to the applicable IEC 60065 or IEC 60950 standards.
  • Declaration for equivalence of standards must also declare that all the clauses that are covered by IEC 60065 or IEC 60950 are also covered by the new standard IEC 62368.
  • Declaration must also have clause by clause analysis or comparison between the two standards in order to prove that all the clauses that are covered by IEC 60065 or IEC 60950 are also covered by the new standard IEC 62368.
  • Declaration test report must still comply with all the requirements of IEC 17025 standard.
  • If the declaration complies with all of the above, then an LOA certificate can be issued to IEC 62368, not to IEC 60065 or IEC 60950.
  • Thinking about compliance testing and certification?
