2G and 3G Network to Start Being Phased Out by 2022

The Israel Ministry of Communication (MoC) is going to be closing the 2G and 3G networks in the country.

This was done by the ministry as a way to free up the frequency and thus the technology can move towards faster services. Things such as 4G and 5G will be able to be more in common use as a result.

This will be done in multiple phases, starting with ceasing the importation of products that use the 2G and 3G networks on January 1, 2022. Following that, new devices starting on January 1st, 2023, products will need to be shifted towards different networks, or providers must offer a 2G or 3G network.

The complete shutdown will occur on December 31, 2025 and this was done to allow for enough time for a transition to occur.
