Public Consultation for WLAN using 6GHz Frequency Band

The Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is opening a new public consultation on the use of the 6GHz frequency band for wireless local area network (WLAN).

The main purpose of this public consultation is to be able to expand the current ability of wireless services in the country. Being able to expand the current ability of wireless services in the country will be able to support more people and traffic on the radio frequency spectrum. One of the main contributing factors to this is WiFi 6, which is a newer standard for WiFi and increasing performance and more users.

WLAN is becoming more used in things such as the Internet, Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, and Ultra High Definition video. Currently, WiFi is being used in the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequency bands in Malaysia. MCMC is asking for comment on whether the entire 6GHz band should be used for WiFi, or if only parts of it should be allowed for WiFi.
