A New Public Consultation for 1880-1920MHz Band

The Australian Communication and Media Authority (ACMA) has released Public Consultation 40/2021, which concerns the use of 1880–1920 MHz.

In Australia, the 1880–1920 MHz band (commonly known as the 1.9 GHz band) is currently used by various services and applications, that includes cordless telecommunications services, point-to-multipoint services, and point-to-point services.

There has been recent interest in Australia in a range of new technology developments, including improved digital enhanced cordless telecommunications (DECT), MulteFire and the Future Railway Mobile Communication Systems (FMRCS). Along with that, there is also interest in accessing more apparatus-licensed spectrum for local area fixed and mobile wireless broadband services. As a result of this, the ACMA is reviewing the current arrangements in this band to identify the uses that best promote the long-term public interest derived from use of the spectrum.

The public consultation considers the future use of the 1.9 GHz band. While the public consultation outlines scenarios for feedback, it does not propose any particular planning option.
