On June 22, 2023, RRA (Regulatory Authority for Radio Frequency Allocation) notified NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) about the decision to grant limited recognition for radiated emissions (EMI) to CABs (Conformity Assessment Bodies) that possess only 3m measurement capabilities.

Previously, only CABs with both 3m and 10m measurement capabilities were eligible for recognition. The recognition will specifically apply to the Technical Requirements for Electromagnetic Compatibility (RRA Announcement 2022-12) and will be limited to 3m measurements. NIST will update their website and Annex I accordingly to reflect the availability of this limited recognition.

CABs interested in obtaining this newly available limited recognition are advised to contact NIST to discuss the necessary modifications to their ISO/IEC 17025 Scope of Accreditation. Additional wording will be required to indicate the limitation of testing small volume products (less than 1.2*1.5m) below 1 GHz.
