On June 25, 2024, ISED updated itβs Radio Standards Specification RSS-210, issue 11, License-Exempt Radio Apparatus: Category I Equipment, replacing RSS-210, issue 10, dated December 2019. There were many updates throughout the standard adding clarifications and new requirements.
Here are the main changes to look for. To clarify general requirements and references in section 6, 6.1, 6.2 and 6.3 were added. Section 7 adds a measurement method. Annex A added section A.1.1 to introduce terms and definitions. Section A.1.3(b) and section A.1.5(d) clarified the restrictions of frequency bands designated for the used of the Government of Canada. Annex B clarified the operating frequency range in section B.8. While removing the requirement related to RSS-310, issue 4, for certification-exempt devices operating in the 24-24.25 GHz frequency band in section B.10. Annex C section C.2(d) clarified unwanted emission limits. Annex E clarified the measurement method for annex E will be based on ANSI C63.26. Section E.1.8 clarified unwanted emission restrictions for Family Radio Service (FRS) and General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS). Section E.2.8 clarified unwanted emission restrictions for General Mobile Radio Service-M (GMRS-M) devices. Annex F Section F.2(a) clarifies harmonic emission limits. Annex G added the technical specification for Wireless Multichannel Audio Systems (WMAS). Section G.4 clarified the use of modulation settings when using ETSI EN 300 422-1. Annex J modified restrictions, added new requirements on the operation for frequency bands, introduced the new power limits for field disturbance sensors (FDS) and its operation in unmanned aircraft (UA), and added items (c) through (e) to further define new power limits. The new added section J.3.3 replaces the previous section J.2.2. All items previously in section J.4 was removed except for item J.4(a), which was moved to J.5(b). Annex K Section K.3-K.5 clarified operational bandwidth, radiated emission limits, and clarified measurement procedure requirements. And of course, editorial changes and clarification were made when appropriate.
