Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED) has launched a consultation on RSS‑252 Issue 3, which defines certification criteria for licence-exempt On‑Board Units (OBUs) using Cellular Vehicle‑to‑Everything (C‑V2X) in the 5895–5925 MHz band. This update builds on Issue 2 from October 2023.
RSS‑252 Issue 2 replaced the earlier DSRC standard, introducing specifications for C‑V2X OBUs operating in the 5895–5925 MHz band, including transmitter limits and unwanted emission criteria with reference to ANSI C63.26.
The consultation seeks feedback on updated certification standards for C‑V2X OBUs in ITS applications. While the precise technical revisions in Issue 3 are currently under review, manufacturers should anticipate enhancements in testing procedures, compliance expectations, and alignment with evolving spectrum policy frameworks.
Manufacturers should review the consultation to identify any proposed enhancements, prepare to adjust test methods, and align device design with Issue 3 expectations.
