Mexico IFT Issues New WLAN and Digital Modulation Standard: IFT-017-2023

The Instituto Federal de Telecomunicaciones (IFT) has published Disposición Técnica IFT-017-2023, establishing updated technical requirements for wireless LAN and digital modulation equipment operating in license-exempt frequency bands. This standard will take effect on November 7, 2025, replacing the previous IFT-008-2015 requirements for the 5725–5850 MHz range.

Key Points & Transition

• • Accredited laboratories and Certification Bodies (CBs) can now process applications under IFT-017-2023.
• • Applications submitted before November 7, 2025, will follow the existing Type B or Type C homologation process.
• • Existing Type B and Type C certificates remain valid; certificates may gain indefinite validity if a Memoria Técnica is submitted within 90 days prior to expiration.
• • All new approvals post-November 7, 2025, must comply with the updated testing requirements in IFT-017-2023.
