Iraq Modernizes Wireless Framework with New 6 GHz, SRD, and UWB Regulations

Iraq’s Communications and Media Commission (CMC) has officially implemented Decision No. 122/Q/2025, introducing the nation's first comprehensive regulatory framework for Short-Range Devices (SRDs) and Ultra-Wideband (UWB) equipment. Effective as of September 22, 2025, this sweeping update reshapes the country's telecommunications landscape.

Designed to harmonize Iraq’s spectrum management with global ETSI and ITU standards, the mandate addresses the surging demand for high-capacity internet and advanced wireless applications. The rules provide a clear foundation for a wide array of technologies, ranging from enterprise local area networks to specialized industrial and medical sensors.

Key Spectrum and Technical Updates

Streamlined Market Access and Compliance

Alongside the technical spectrum changes, the CMC has overhauled its type approval procedures to accelerate market entry for manufacturers. The certification process has been fully digitized, requiring online applications supported by standard EMC, RF, and safety test reports. Notably, the CMC no longer requires physical product samples for general certification, significantly reducing administrative hurdles while maintaining strict post-market surveillance to enforce compliance.
