Pakistan Revises Framework for Terrestrial IoT and SRD Regulations

Pakistan’s Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has released Version 1.4 of its revised regulatory framework for Short Range Devices (SRD) and Terrestrial IoT, which took effect on 18 December 2025. The updated framework outlines revised technical, regulatory, and spectrum management requirements governing the operation, deployment, and licensing of SRD and IoT systems across Pakistan.

This version replaces previous regulations and introduces updated frequency allocations, technical parameters, and device registration procedures aimed at improving spectrum efficiency and minimizing interference. Key updates include revised power limits, duty cycle requirements, antenna specifications, and the requirement for PTA Type Approval for all applicable equipment.

The framework also clarifies that SRD devices may operate on a licence-exempt basis, while IoT service providers are required to obtain appropriate authorization from PTA. Additionally, the revisions bring Pakistan’s SRD and IoT regulations more closely in line with international standards, supporting improved interoperability and facilitating the broader adoption of IoT technologies.
