The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) has published the Qatar National Frequency Allocation Plan 2026 (QNFAP 2026), establishing the country’s updated framework for managing and assigning radio spectrum. The plan outlines how spectrum resources will be allocated across different radio services and reflects Qatar’s continued commitment to efficient spectrum management and alignment with global regulatory practices developed by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
The updated plan introduces a structured approach to spectrum management across the full range of radio frequencies, from Very Low Frequency (VLF) through Extremely High Frequency (EHF) bands. It promotes efficient spectrum utilization, helps prevent harmful interference, and supports coordination between civil and defense users. QNFAP 2026 also aligns with ITU Region 1 regulatory frameworks and incorporates relevant outcomes from recent World Radiocommunication Conference decisions. The document includes detailed band allocations, national footnotes, and annexes covering short-range devices (SRDs), harmonized spectrum bands, and national allotment plans.
For industry stakeholders, the updated plan provides clearer regulatory guidance for spectrum planning and usage. Mobile network operators, satellite providers, equipment manufacturers, aviation and maritime organizations, and emerging technology developers will benefit from a more transparent structure for spectrum allocation and licensing. By defining key concepts such as allocation, allotment, and assignment—and clarifying the hierarchy of primary and secondary services—QNFAP 2026 now serves as Qatar’s primary reference for spectrum policy, regulatory compliance, and future wireless development.
