Argentina is introducing a significant modernization of its telecommunications equipment approval process through Resolution 57/2026 issued by the Ente Nacional de Comunicaciones (ENACOM). The new regulation replaces legacy rules dating back to Resolutions 729/80 and 784/87, establishing a more streamlined framework designed to align with international compliance systems such as those used by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the CE Marking. The updated framework aims to modernize how telecommunications and wireless devices are approved and registered before entering the Argentine market.
One of the key changes introduced by the resolution is a decentralized certification model for type approval. Under the new system, accredited certification bodies and testing laboratories operating in accordance with ISO/IEC 17065 will be authorized to issue Certificates of Conformity, which are required for registration in Argentina’s telecommunications equipment registry, known as RAMATEL. This approach is expected to improve efficiency and align Argentina’s approval process more closely with internationally recognized conformity assessment practices.
The new framework also introduces permanent registrations, meaning approvals will no longer have a fixed expiration period. Instead, ENACOM will rely on market surveillance activities to verify ongoing compliance. In addition, the approval process will transition to a fully digital system, with all submissions managed through the HERTZ platform once the new framework is fully implemented.
A transition period is currently underway, with the new RAMATEL system scheduled to become fully effective on 1 September 2026. Until then, applications will continue to be processed under the existing rules, with approvals valid for three years. After the transition deadline, all new registrations must follow the updated regulatory model, marking a significant shift in how telecom equipment is approved and monitored in Argentina.
