The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Kominfo) has issued an update to the testing requirements for Radio Local Area Network (RLAN) devices operating in the 6 GHz spectrum band. According to an official notice dated 13 January 2026, new provisions took effect on 15 January 2026, expanding the range of laboratories permitted to issue test reports for equipment operating in this band.
The update follows the framework established in Ministerial Decree No. 12 of 2025, which defines spectrum use under class licensing and sets the technical standards for telecommunications equipment used in RLAN systems. Under the revised policy, test reports for devices operating in the 5925โ6425 MHz frequency band can now be issued by accredited domestic telecommunications testing laboratories in Indonesia, as well as qualified foreign laboratories located in countries that maintain a Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) with Indonesia, provided those labs are authorized to perform RLAN testing within the applicable frequency scope.
The change was introduced following an evaluation of RLAN 6 GHz device testing conducted throughout 2025 and replaces a temporary provision previously included in the ministerial decree. By recognizing both domestic and approved international laboratories, Indonesia aims to streamline the equipment approval process while maintaining regulatory oversight for devices entering the market. The updated approach also provides greater clarity for manufacturers seeking certification for 6 GHz RLAN and Wi-Fi 6E devices, helping facilitate compliance and market access within Indonesiaโs telecommunications sector.
