Communications Authority of Kenya Implements Stricter Formatting Criteria for Letters of Authorization

The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) has enacted rigid documentation standards for Letters of Authorization (LoAs) submitted during the ICT and telecommunications type-approval process. This update is a targeted effort to eradicate document fraud, enhance market traceability, and improve regulatory compliance across all equipment homologation channels. Moving forward, the regulator will strictly review the origin and structure of authorization filings before reviewing any technical test files.

Under the updated rules, all Letters of Authorization or Letters of Agency must be issued on the official corporate letterhead of the manufacturer or the primary client. Generic text documents or plain-text authorization templates will no longer pass preliminary checks. Furthermore, these documents must incorporate comprehensive, current corporate contact information. This includes the company's verified email domain, working telephone lines, physical facility coordinates, and the corporate web domain to allow CA officials to quickly cross-check and validate the application's legitimacy.

These structural document changes follow a series of operational tightening measures by the CA, which also include updated sample testing mandates for specific radio equipment classes. Original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and compliance managers looking to access the Kenyan market must ensure that all notarized foreign documents and local agency submissions strictly align with these updated corporate representation parameters. Applications failing to feature the proper letterhead or missing verifiable contact details face immediate rejection at the intake level.
