China Finalizes Trial Regulations on Radar Radio Management to Modernize Spectrum Usage

China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) formally issued the Regulations on Radio Management for Radar (Trial Implementation) following public consultation periods managed by the Radio Management Bureau. The finalized regulatory framework clarifies radar device classifications, updates technical emission parameters, and modernizes approval workflows to meet rising national demand across automotive safety, environmental monitoring, and industrial sensing applications. The binding measures enforce tighter airwave management and establish strict supervision rules governing radar manufacturing and importation across mainland China.

A key technical requirement within the finalized framework shifts roadside traffic radar allocations into the 92–94 GHz band, reserving the 76–81 GHz range primarily for vehicle-mounted automotive radar systems. With the trial regulation taking effect on January 1, 2026, state radio management authorities will no longer accept radio transmission type approval (SRRC) applications for non-compliant roadside radar hardware operating outside the designated bands. Manufacturers and importers must update radio frequency module designs, secure revised SRRC type approval certificates, and verify compliance with MIIT’s updated technical parameters prior to commercial placement on the Chinese market.
