RSS New Standards Released

The Ministry of Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED) has released two new Radio Standards Specifications on September 29, 2022.

Specification for Radio Standards RSS-139, Advanced Wireless Services (AWS) Equipment Operating in the Bands 1710-1780 MHz and 2110-2200 MHz, issue 4 replaces RSS-139, Advanced Wireless Services (AWS) Equipment Operating in the Bands 1710-1780 MHz and 2110-2180 MHz, issue 3, dated July 16, 2015

Main changes including the following:

  • Added the frequency range 2180-2200 MHz
  • Removed the requirements related to the mobile equipment identifier and the international mobile equipment identity number as they are no longer required.
  • RSS-170, Issue 4 – Mobile Earth Stations and Ancillary Terrestrial Component Equipment Operating in the Mobile-Satellite Service Bands, which sets out certification requirements of radio equipment operating in the mobile-satellite service (MSS) bands, including mobile earth stations (MESs) and ancillary terrestrial component (ATC) equipment.

    Main changes including the following:

  • SMSE-009-20, Decision on Globalstar Canada's Application for Ancillary Terrestrial Component (ATC) Authority in the 2.4 GHz Band, specifies additional requirements for ancillary terrestrial component (ATC) equipment operating in the band 2483.5-2495 MHz (2483.5-2500 MHz).
  • Removed ATC equipment band 2180-2200 MHz because it is now contained in RSS-139
  • Updated the frequency bands for mobile earth stations and ATC equipment
